SPECIALIST IN EMERGENCY MEDICINE SELECTED AS ONE OF TOP DOCTORS, AS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BY THEIR PEERS AND THOROUGHLY SCREENED BY CONSUMER RESEARCH COUNCIL OF AMERICA

East Meadow, New York, …… Faiz Khan, MD, FACEP, FAAEM, FACP, vice chair of the department of emergency medicine at the Nassau University Medical Center has been included in the Consumers’ Research Council of America – Guide to America’s Top Emergency Department Physicians 2009 Edition.  Dr.Khan is a specialist in emergency medicine, with dual training and boards in internal medicine and emergency medicine, who was one of a number of specialists selected to be included in this year’s 2009 edition of the guide.

Consumers’ Research Council of America is an independent research company based in Washington, DC that evaluates professional services throughout America.  CRCA has compiled a list of top obstetricians and gynecologists throughout the US by utilizing a point system, that uses a point value for criteria deemed valuable in determining the top health care professionals. The selection process is based on a point value system that awards points for education and continuing education, years of practice, board certification and affiliations with professional associations.

Dr. Faiz Khan is boarded in both internal and emergency medicine through an accelerated combined 5 year training program at Long Island Jewish Medical Center.  While training, he was mentored closely by our own Dr. Steve Walerstein.  In addition,  and was also taught by 2 other recent NUMC arrivals, Dr. Anthony Boutin and Dr. Glenn Faust who are the chairmen of Emergency medicine and Surgery. Dr. Khan went on to become Associate Residency Director of the Combined Emergency/Internal medicine training program at Long Island Jewish – where he was a recipient of the Sir William Osler Teaching award.  Dr. Khan then spent 2 years as faculty at Penn State / Hershey Medical Center where he was Assistant Residency Director of Emergency Medicine, Director of the Medical Observation Unit, and also practiced as a hospitalist in Internal medicine.
 
Dr. Khan is now the Vice-Chair and Head of Academic Affairs for the newly invigorated department of emergency medicine here at NUMC. In addition to leading the push to optimize clinical operations of the department, he has spear headed recruitment efforts to gather the best and brightest trained emergency physicians from the area’s training programs.  Through Dr. Khan’s efforts, for the first time in NUMC’s history, a highly acclaimed graduate medical education program is offered here at NUMC – where the area’s emergency medicine residencies are eager to learn under the expertise of NUMC’s new emergency medicine faculty. Through recruitment and graduate medical education – the level of care given in the Emergency Department here at NUMC has risen significantly. 

Dr. Khan is a regional and international lecturer and published author on subjects covering clinical and academic medicine, as well as the medical humanities. In addition, Dr Khan has established a highly active asthma research program where cutting edge therapies are offered to asthma sufferers that are in acute distress.
