DR. POLITI WELCOMES FOUR FELLOWS IN NUMC’S 2014 MINORITY ADMINITRATIVE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM FOR EMERGING LEADERS
East Meadow, NY………Victor F. Politi, MD, FACP, FACEP, NuHealth’s President/CEO is pleased to announce this year’s four fellows in the 2014 Minority Administrative Fellowship Program for Emerging Leaders at the Nassau University Medical Center. The program is designed to prepare and train ethnic and racial minorities to become future leaders in healthcare.
“We are delighted to welcome this year’s four administrative fellows to our health care system where we will provide professional guidance and expand the delivery of culturally competent services to underserved populations, while increasing the pool of talented and culturally competent professionals dedicated to serving the underserved communities in the region,” stated Dr. Politi.
The goals of the Minority Administrative Fellowship Program for Emerging Leaders are:
• Enlist minority graduate students intent on entering healthcare to participate in the fellowship program.
• To raise awareness among ethnic and racial minorities that they can play a key role in improving the quality of care and services provided to patients; and
• To reduce healthcare disparities among ethnic and racial minorities in the healthcare industry.
This year’s administrative fellows are:
Jacqueline Carman, recently received a Masters of Public Administration at Long Island University following a career change after working as a paralegal at Turley, Redmond, Rosasco & Rosasco in Suffolk, and an extensive career at the NYPD. Ms. Carman’s focus and goals are to help bridge communication and language barriers within the community.
Mahrukh Zaidi has recently received a Masters of Health Administration at Hofstra University, New York. In addition to school, she also worked as a Staffing Consultant, Health Source Group. Her goals are to focus on community health in regards to accessing affordable healthcare and improve administration and management by focusing on patient safety.
Ronald Sanchez. a recent graduate of Hofstra University with a Masters in Public Health. Prior to changing careers, he worked as a Certified Healthcare Counselor at United Healthcare Community Plan, New York. His future goals are to focus on healthcare policies and technology, improve access to healthcare for underserved and build community relationships.
Oroma Igwe, a recent graduate of Meharry Medical College, Nashville, Tennessee obtained a Masters in Public Health. Prior to relocating to New York, she was an Intern at the State Department of Health, Tennessee conducting healthcare innovation initiatives. Her primary goals are to gain knowledge and influence clinical care delivery with a focus on economic burden of healthcare and healthcare disparity.
Margaree Mack-Glen who coordinates the program added her congratulations to the four fellows on their selection: “Our 2014-2015 four fellows will have extensive opportunities to meet and work with senior level management in gaining practical and operational experience in areas of operations, finance, quality management and administration, helping to increase the pool of talented and culturally competent professionals, dedicated to serving the underserved and vulnerable populations.”
