East Meadow, N.Y., November22, 2021 – Dr. Francesco Serafini, surgical oncologist, has joined the Cancer Care Center at Nassau University Medical Center. The multi-disciplinary team of oncology specialists at the Cancer Care Center provides comprehensive oncological care, including chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery to patients on a sliding scale fee structure.

Nassau Health Care Corporation is proud to welcome Dr. Francesco Serafini, surgical oncologist, to the Cancer Care Center at Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC). Dr. Serafini is the newest addition to the Cancer Care Center’s multi-disciplinary team of specialists who provide a wide array of cancer treatments, including chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery.

Dr. Serafini is a board-certified surgical oncologist who specializes in treatments for the most complex cancers and liver conditions, including sarcomas, pancreatic tumors, and liver tumors. Prior to joining NUMC’s Cancer Care Center, Dr. Serafini completed a fellowship in surgical oncology and Hepatobiliary (HPB) surgery at the University of South Florida, where he became an expert in his field. At NUMC, Dr. Serafini joins a team of peers including medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, hematology and oncology fellows (licensed physicians completing advanced training in cancer treatment), nurses, chemotherapy pharmacists, and other medical professionals specializing in cancer care. Together, they provide patients with the most advanced treatment plans for various types of cancer, including breast, lung, cervical, colorectal, skin, ovarian, pancreatic, and prostate cancers, as well as chronic leukemias, Hodgkin’s lymphoma and Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Conveniently located within NUMC, the Cancer Care Center provides holistic cancer care to treat the whole patient. This includes patient education services, so patients are well-informed and have the necessary physical and emotional support throughout their treatment plan. To this end, translators are available to ensure clear communication between staff and patients, and on-staff social workers are present to guide patients and their families through diagnosis and treatment. The Cancer Care Center also provides a Patient Assistance Program to help patients obtain necessary medication and a Look Good, Feel Good Program to provide beauty and confidence-building tips. Additional mental health services are also available through NUMC’s Outpatient Mental Health Center.

The Cancer Care Center is located on the 1st floor of NUCM’s S-building and is open on Thursdays from 8am to 12pm. Patients can be referred to the Cancer Care Center by their primary care physicians following a medical assessment. All patients are welcome regardless of insurance, and a sliding scale fee structure is available to un- or under-insured patients to ensure payment plans are aligned with patients’ needs. To schedule an appointment, please call (516) 572-NUMC (0123). Patients can select option 1 for English and option 2 for Spanish, followed by option 1 again to schedule an appointment.
