CRAIG VINCENT RIZZO, ESQ, CHAIRMAN NUHEALTH BOARD OF DIRECTORS, TO BE HONORED BY UNITED HOSPITAL FUND FOR EXTRAORDINARY LEADERSHIP AND SERVICE TO NASSAU UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER
East Meadow, NY …Craig Vincent Rizzo, Esq., chairman of the NuHealth board of directors, has been selected to receive the United Hospital Fund’s 2012 Distinguished Trustee Award, for his extraordinary leadership and service to the Nassau University Medical Center. The United Hospital Fund will present the Distinguished Trustee Award to Mr. Rizzo at a luncheon on May 7, 2012 at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. The honorees, who play a vital role at their respective institutions, are being recognized for their leadership, generosity, and extraordinary service to not-for-profit and municipal hospitals in New York City and nearby communities. The theme of this year’s event is “Tribute to Hospital Trustees.” Among the award recipients are prominent leaders in business, medicine, education, and law, as well as those involved in human services and volunteerism. The trustees were nominated by their respective institutions, which include community hospitals, academic medical centers, and public hospitals representing all five boroughs of New York City and nearby communities in both New York and New Jersey.
In expressing his felicitations to Mr. Rizzo, Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the NuHealth System, said: “You are to be congratulated for this well-deserved honor, a testament to your distinguished service and commitment to the mission of the NuHealth System.”
Mr. Rizzo specializes in health care law with emphasis on medical malpractice law. He has served as a member of the NuHealth board of directors since January 2010, as well as a founding member of the Long Island Medical Foundation board of directors, the philanthropic arm of the NuHealth System. He was appointed to the NuHealth board of directors by the Governor, upon recommendation of the minority leader of the Nassau County legislature. He is a founding advisory board member of the Feinstein Medical Research Institute of the North Shore-LIJ Health System. He also serves on the advisory board of the Franklin Hospital. This year, County Executive Mangano appointed Mr. Rizzo as a commissioner on the Nassau County Assessment Review Commission. He was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1996, after obtaining his law degree in 1994 from Touro College, Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center in New York.
“Metropolitan area hospitals have certainly faced their share of challenges this past year, and, as has happened countless times over the past 150 years, our voluntary leaders have played a key role in addressing those challenges,” said Fund President James R. Tallon, Jr. “Often, voluntary leaders are in a unique position to bring specialized knowledge and expertise to the table, to be sensitive to community needs, and to focus attention on specific issues and concerns from a different perspective. The leaders we honor today are among the region’s best at guiding their institutions when help has been needed most. That’s why we at the United Hospital Fund feel privileged to have this opportunity to recognize the exemplary efforts of this remarkable group of voluntary leaders.”
Upon being notified of his upcoming recognition, Mr. Rizzo indicated: “I am grateful and humbled to have been selected, along with the other United Hospital Fund honorees for the 2012 Distinguished Trustee Award, for our service and commitment to improve the quality and patient safety of our various institutions.”
