CRAIG V. RIZZO APPOINTED AS CHAIR OF THE NUHEALTH BOARD OF DIRECTORS

East Meadow, NY…..Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the NuHealth System, announced that Nassau County Executive, Edward Mangano, exercising his rights under the NuHealth’s enabling statute, has elected to appoint Craig Vincent Rizzo, Esq., as chairman of the NuHealth board of directors. Mr. Rizzo replaces Martin D. Payson, who has served as chair of the board during the last four years.

“Mr. Payson’s tenure has been extraordinary. Under his leadership, we have enjoyed governance stability; we reached our best financial performance as a health care system; we’ve improved our quality to the point where many of our clinical programs have earned national recognition; we have undertaken the largest modernization effort in the history of the organization; we’ve embarked on the redevelopment of 85 acres of our real estate; and we have undertaken ongoing negotiations with the North Shore-LIJ Health System for clinical integration of our services as we transform our system so it makes sense in the wake of health reform,” stated Gianelli. “Mr. Payson deserves our congratulations for his dedication and commitment to the success of the NuHealth System as well as our gratitude.”

Mr. Rizzo, specializes in medical malpractice law as a partner in the law firm Bartlett, McDonough, Bastone and Monaghan, LLP. He has served as a member of the NuHealth board of directors since January 2010, as well as a founding member of the Long Island Medical Foundation board of directors, the philanthropic arm of the NuHealth System.  He was appointed to the NuHealth board of directors by the Governor, upon recommendation of the minority leader of the Nassau County legislature. He is a founding advisory board member of the Feinstein Medical Research Institute of the North Shore-LIJ Health System. He also serves on the advisory board of the Franklin Hospital. This year, County Executive Mangano appointed Mr. Rizzo as a commissioner on the Nassau County Assessment Review Commission. He was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1996, after obtaining his law degree from Touro College, Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center in New York.

” Craig Rizzo is a smart, able, and supportive member of our NuHealth board, and I have no doubt that he will do a great job serving as our chair, nor do I doubt that he will continue the wonderful path Mr. Payson has set for the NuHealth System,” added Gianelli.
