PRESTIGIOUS DUAL APPOINTMENTS ARE TESTAMENT TO DR. BROWN’S COMMITMENT TO PRIMARY AND FAMILY MEDICINE FOR THE UNINSURED AND UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES OF NASSAU COUNTY

East Meadow, NY…..In a letter dated January 5, 2009 and signed by Richard Fine, MD, Dean, Stony Brook University School of Medicine, Christine D. Brown, MD, Associate Medical Director in the Department of Community Medicine at the Nassau Health Care Corporation (NHCC), received notification of her appointments as Assistant Clinical Professor of Preventive Medicine and Family Medicine at the University of Stony Brook School of Medicine Brook.
 
Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC), part of the NHCC safety net health system, is a teaching institution, training hundreds of residents and medical students each year to obtain their clinical experience while serving diverse populations in a community hospital with a public mission. As an affiliate of the SUNY Stony Brook School of Medicine, many of NUMC’s faculty has academic appointments through the SUNY Stony Brook system.  This is in recognition of scholarly and teaching efforts performed through the NHCC for Stony Brook students, NUMC’s residents, other trainees, and the community at large.

In congratulating Dr. Brown on her appointment, Steven Walerstein, MD, senior VP for medical affairs and medical director for the NHCC said:  “This recognition and honor reflect Dr. Brown’s career-long commitment to community and family medicine.  After having served communities on Long Island, we are privileged to have Dr. Brown as a leader in elevating the quality of care for NHCC’s patients.”

Dr. Christine Brown joined the NUMC faculty in 2005.  She currently serves as Associate Medical Director of the Department of Community Medicine.  Dr. Brown also practices the full spectrum of Family Medicine at the Westbury Community Health Center. 

Dr. Brown received her Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience from New York University.  While at NYU she investigated the development of visual functions in infant pigtailed macaque monkeys, the results of which provided insight into the treatment of Strabismus in children. Dr. Brown received her M.D. degree from the University of Stony Brook School of Medicine.  She ultimately completed her Family Medicine Residency training at Jamaica Hospital where she served as Chief Resident.  Dr. Brown strives to transform the delivery of healthcare by implementing programs that will improve access to care to communities in need and utilizing a more integrative and holistic approach to patient care.

In accepting her appointment, Dr. Brown said: “I am delighted to be joining the faculty of SUNY Stony Brook and look forward to continuing our commitment to improve the health status of not only those at risk, but all of the people of Nassau County.”
