CHAUR-DONG HSU, MD, MPH, FACOG, APPOINTED AS CHAIR OF OBSTETRICS AND GYNECOLOGY DEPARTMENT AT NHCC

East Meadow, NY……Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the Nassau Health Care Corporation (NHCC), announced the appointment of Chaur-Dong Hsu, MD, MPH, FACOG, as the chairman of the department of obstetrics and gynecology for Nassau’s public health care system.  “Dr. Hsu is a highly regarded physician, with excellent credentials, who will be a tremendous asset to the NHCC as we move to improve women’s health services. He possesses significant strengths as a clinician, educator and researcher and will help our institution to fulfill our commitment to the highest level of quality care for our patients,” said Mr. Gianelli.
 
Dr. Hsu recently joined the Nassau Health Care Corporation as chairman of the department of obstetrics/gynecology at Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC), coming from Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, New York, where he was the chairman of the department OB/GYN as well as vice chair and professor with tenure at New York Medical College. Dr. Hsu graduated from Kaohsiung Medical University in Taiwan in 1982 and came to the United States for his residency training at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York. He became a postdoctoral researcher and a clinical fellow of maternal-fetal medicine at Johns Hopkins University. At the same time, he obtained his Master’s degree of Public Health and was a Doctor of Philosophy candidate at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. He joined Yale University as a faculty member from 1993-1999, and became a professor at Duke University in 2000. Before returning to New York, he became an endow chair at the University of Nebraska.. In addition to his past administration experience including chairman, vice chair, directors for clerkship, residency, and fellowship programs, Dr. Hsu has served in various department, hospital, university, community educational and administrative committees.

During his past academic career, he has been recognized as an excellent educator. He was voted Best Teacher by medical students and residents multiple years, including 2007. He has been invited nationally and internationally to give numerous lectures, specifically pregnancy complications involving preeclampsia. Dr. Hsu is on the editorial boards and journal reviews for national and international journals as well as serving as an educational consultant. 

Dr. Hsu has been included in numerous prestigious lists, including the Best Doctors in America, Best Doctors in New York, and Best Doctors in Westchester County for many years, including 2007. He is one of the most well-known Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialists in Westchester and Hudson Valley areas, where he actively strived to make his presence felt in the community. In addition to participating in local society academic and educational activities, he was the co-chair for the annual regional perinatal forum in the Hudson Valley area to educate and to promote the regional perinatal health. Dr. Hsu, who believes these experiences can be duplicated in the LI community, stated: “I look forward to working with Nassau University Medical Center’s strong leadership team to improve women’s health services in the various communities served by Nassau’s safety net health care system and to continue my strong commitment to promote residents’ education and research.”
