HEALTH PROFESSIONAL WILL BE AN ASSET TO IPRO BOARD IN HELPING TO ASSESS AND IMPROVE THE VALUES OF HEALTH CARE SERVICES RECEIVED BY CONSUMERS AND TO REPRESENT INITIATIVES TO DEAL WITH DISPARITIES
East Meadow, NY…. Carlos Alvarez, ACSW, Executive Director for the Institute for Healthcare Disparities at the Nassau University Medical Center has been appointed to the Board of Directors of IPRO for a one-year term.
IPRO is one of the largest and most experienced health care quality review and improvement organizations in the United States, assessing and improving the value of health care services through the use of innovative methods and technologies. IPRO’s professional staff includes more than 350 physicians, registered nurses, epidemiologists, health policy analysts, data analysts, biostatisticians, medical records analysts and systems analysts, as well as a network of more than 300 board-certified physician consultants.
Nassau Health Care Corporation Chief Operating Officer, Paul Rowland, who also is a member of the IPRO board stated: “In order to meet the federal requirements for a quality review organization, there is no one more qualified to represent the issue and initiatives dealing with healthcare disparities in our healthcare system than Carlos Alvarez. He will be an asset to the IPRO board in helping to support their efforts.”
Carlos Alvarez, ACSW was appointed Executive Director of the Institute for Healthcare Disparities at Nassau University Medical Center on December 3, 2007. Mr. Alvarez had previously served as the Associate Executive Director at Harlem Hospital in charge of Ambulatory Care Services, and as the Executive Director of the American Lung Association Massachusetts Chapter. In addition, Mr. Alvarez has 37 years of post Masters’ work experience in health education and administration. Mr. Alvarez has a Bachelors degree from the College of William and Mary in Virginia and a Masters degree from the University of Chicago.
Mr. Alvarez, Cuban born and a citizen of the United States for 46 years, is also active in the Association of Hispanic Healthcare Executives and the National Association of Social Workers. He is married and resides in Suffolk County.
