ARTHUR A. GIANELLI, PRESIDENT/CEO OF THE NUHEALTH SYSTEM, APPOINTED TO GOVERNANCE ROLE WITH THE AMERICAN HOSPITAL ASSOCIATION
East Meadow, NY…Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the NuHealth System, has been appointed to a governance role with the American Hospital Association (AHA) effective as of January 2011. “I am honored and look forward to participating as an Alternate Delegate for Regional Policy Board 2 (RPB), working on advocacy, policy and strategic planning issues. I am gratified with the confidence placed in me by the committee,” stated Gianelli.
In a recent letter to Gianelli, Carolyn Forcina, Regional Executive of the AHA, congratulated Gianelli on his selection, “The nominating committee of the AHA Section for Metro Hospitals has nominated you as an alternate delegate to RPB 2. I am delighted you have been appointed to the AHA’s Regional Policy Board 2 and I look forward to working with you during your three year term beginning January 1, 2011 and ending December 21, 2013.”
The American Hospital Association section for Metro Hospitals is a national advisory committee that represents AHA metro members and counsels AHA on advocacy, policy and strategic planning issues. It also has a nominating committee that is responsible for recommending member CEOs to vacancies on the AHA Regional Policy Boards (RPB) and Governing Council. Members of the RPB work on behalf of the region’s hospitals and serve as key contacts and resources for hospitals in their regions. In addition, RPB members work with AHA, regional, and state association staff to build section visibility and assist in member recruitment and retention.
Gianelli is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the NuHealth System (also called the Nassau Health Care Corporation), a $545 million academic medical center, safety net provider, and integrated health delivery system consisting of the Nassau University Medical Center, the A. Holly Patterson Extended Care Facility, four family health centers, and one school based clinic. He has held this position since June 1, 2006. Previously, Mr. Gianelli was the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the NuHealth System. He was appointed to this position on March 8, 2006. For the prior ten years, Mr. Gianelli served in senior executive positions for two Long Island municipalities. He was Deputy County Executive for Budget and
Finance for Nassau County and Director of Operations for the Town of North Hempstead. Mr. Gianelli earned a Bachelors Degree in History from St. John’s University, a Master of Arts Degree in Political Science from Brown University, a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Dowling College, and a Masters Degree in Public Health from Columbia University. Mr. Gianelli lives in New Hyde Park, New York with his wife, Nassau County District Court Judge Sharon Gianelli, and his two stepchildren, Cameron and Jessica. Gianelli serves on several boards including; Erase Racism, Island Harvest and the Executive Committee of Healthfirst. Gianelli was also previously elected and started serving in 2009 as an at-large member of the Executive Committee of the National Association of Public Hospitals (NAPH).
