CARDIOLOGY DEPARTMENT, UNDER CHAIRMANSHIP OF SANJAY DODDAMANI, MD, CELEBRATES FIRST ANNIVERSARY OF JOINT PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN NUHEALTH SYSTEM AND NORTH SHORE-LIJ HEALTH SYSTEM, WITH SIGNIFICANT STRIDES IN ADDRESSING QUALITY, SERVICE AND OUTCOMES

East Meadow, NY……Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO, of the NuHealth System, is pleased to announce that Ricardo Benenstein, MD, an advanced diagnostic cardiac imaging specialist, has joined the cardiology department of the Nassau University Medical Center.

“We are very pleased to welcome Dr. Ricardo J. Benenstein, as director of non invasive cardiac imaging in the department of cardiology at the Nassau University Medical Center, where he will provide his expertise in diagnostic cardiac imaging to NUMC’s vulnerable population. His focus at NuHealth, will be in advanced diagnostic cardiac imaging and in  establishing an important outpatient practice, with special emphasis in echocardiography and cardiac CT,” said Gianelli.

“The department of cardiology is celebrating its first anniversary of a joint partnership between the NuHealth System and the North Shore-LIJ Health System, boasting over 2000 annual visits, over 4000 annual cardiac imaging tests including echocardiography and nuclear cardiology,” stated Sanjay Doddamani, MD, chair of the cardiology department at NUMC. “With the imminent arrival of a state of the art 320 multi detector slice CT to the institution, Dr. Benenstein will help to establish a joint program between cardiology and radiology in cardiac CT, which will further enhance the diagnostic capabilities in coronary artery disease evaluation in the Nassau community.”

Steven Walerstein, MD, executive vice president for medical affairs and medical director at the NuHealth System, also welcomed Dr. Benenstein and complimented the cardiology department on its successful first year: “Under the leadership of Dr. Sanjay Doddamani, the cardiology program has made significant strides to address quality, service and outcomes. Recently, new services like cardiac electrophysiology including implantation of defibrillators and pacemakers have been introduced, stated Dr. Walerstein.  “In addition, a heart failure program is about to be launched this fall, to address the growing number of patients who suffer from congestive heart failure in Nassau County.”

Dr. Benenstein completed his internal medicine residency at NYU Downtown Hospital in NY; his cardiology fellowship at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami, Florida; and subsequently did an additional fellowship in cardiac imaging at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School where he specialized in cardiac CT and cardiac MRI.
