East Meadow, NY…. Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the Nassau Health Care Corporation, was invited to speak at the Hofstra University Second Annual Health Policy Breakfast where hospital leaders and administrators had an opportunity to learn about health care reform.  The guest speaker of the event, Richard Umbdenstock, President/CEO of the American Hospital Association, spoke about the AHA’s framework for health care reform:  Health for Life—Better Health, Better Health care.  Following Umbdenstock’s presentation, Gianelli and Michael Dowling, President/CEO of the North Shore, LIJ Health System, each responded to Umbdenstock’s speech with comments on health care reform.

“I am honored to have been invited to address hospital leaders and administrators on a topic of such importance as the need for health care reform,” said Gianelli who discussed various aspects of President Obama’s health plan, the care model of the future and the crucial role that public hospitals play. “The leadership of our institution remains committed to work on viable solutions, including the importance of providing access to improve the quality and delivery of health care services in our crucial role as a strong safety net for vulnerable populations.”

Gianelli discussed various access initiatives in the process of being implemented at the NHCC, such as NuCare, a program of providing a medical home for Nassau County’s underserved population by lowering barriers to accessing healthcare and making health care services accessible and affordable for uninsured residents.  He also had an opportunity to discuss the care model of the future with comprehensive strategies for coordinated care and the medical home concept. In explaining the care model of the future, Gianelli highlighted the Triple Aim Initiative of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, to better understand new models that can improve the individual patient experience and the health of entire communities, at a reasonable per capita cost.
