ARTHUR A. GIANELLI, NHCC PRESIDENT/CEO ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF RONALD A. TOMO AS CHIEF INFORMATION OFFICER, RESPONSIBLE FOR OVERSEEING ALL ASPECTS OF HEALTH CARE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEMS

HIGHLY SEASONED, WELL EDUCATED HEALTH CARE SYSTEMS PROFESSIONAL WILL ASSIST MAJOR SAFETY-NET INSTITUTION IN ACHIEVING INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY GOALS

East Meadow, NY  ……   Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the Nassau Health Care Corporation announced the appointment of Ronald A. Tomo as Chief Information Officer for Nassau’s public health care network.  In this position, Tomo will be responsible for the day to day management and for overseeing all aspects of the NHCC’s information technology (IT) and communications systems.

“Ron Tomo, an ideal professional to lead our IT department, is a highly seasoned and well educated health care systems professional who will assist us in achieving our IT goals,” said Gianelli.  “His over two decades of professional engagement at institutions such as Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Brookdale Hospital and Episcopal Health Services, have provided him with the skills and experience to make him a major player in his field, with the strength and conviction to transform our institution into a futuristic IT environment to better serve our patients.”               

Mr. Tomo received his Bachelor’s degree in Management and a Master’s degree in Public Administration, specializing in Hospital Administration from Long Island University.  His systems training was obtained from a full certification program at New York University.  He is also a certified paralegal and has studied managed care systems and integrated delivery systems at the Harvard School of Public Health.  He has the designation of a Certified Computing Professional and a Certified Novell Administrator. 
             
Through his amateur radio hobby (launched in 1967), he has studied electronics and wireless technologies for over 30 years.  He runs his own television station, has worked and communicated with the space shuttles and the MIR Space Station; and has worked for years in intercontinental digital communications.  He is also a Certified Level I, II, & III Emergency Communications Specialist, through the American Radio Relay League.  Mr. Tomo also holds a Federal Communication Commission Commercial third class radio telegraph certificate.

Mr. Tomo has worked both in the hospital applications area (designing/building software and acquiring packaged software) and in the high technology arena (ATM WAN; video conferencing; LANs, etc.).  He has received Certificates of Merit from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and Long Island University, where he received the health administration award for being the highest-level student in his Masters program.  He is a member of Pi Alpha Alpha, the National Honor Society for Public Affairs and Administration.  Mr. Tomo has also published articles on patient education systems, medical office management systems, and physician billing systems.  He also gives seminars on computers and internet, where his lectures are attended by executives, physicians, and many other health care professionals. Mr. Tomo was an adjunct professor at Long Island University, teaching health care information systems and microcomputer application in health care.  Mr. Tomo also volunteers in the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary and the United States Army specializing in communications.
