FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
ARTHUR A. GIANELLI, NASSAU HEALTH CARE CORPORATION PRESIDENT/CEO, ELECTED CLASS SPEAKER BY 2008 CLASS OF THE EXECUTIVE MASTER IN PUBLIC HEALTH PROGRAM OF COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY
East Meadow, NY…. Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the Nassau Health Care Corporation, the safety-net healthcare system comprised of Nassau University Medical Center, A. Holly Patterson Extended Care Facility and various community health centers, has been elected class speaker for the October 3, 2008 graduation ceremonies at Columbia University by the Executive Master in Public Health (EMPH) 2008 class.
The EMPH, at the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University, provides working health professionals with the management and policy skills needed to be effective health care leaders. The curriculum provides an overview of the political, legal and economic forces that shape the health care system, an introduction to the core principles of public health and a hands-on immersion into the principles and practices of effective management.
“I am humbled and honored to be the 2008 EMPH class speaker. The EMPH is an excellent program providing us with insights into the complexities and inter-relationships across the public health spectrum, with opportunities to really think about issues faced by health care leaders on a daily basis and how to best accomplish strategies within various public health settings,” said Mr. Gianelli.
In addition to successfully completing the EMPH, Mr. Gianelli already possesses two other Master’s degrees, a Master of Arts Degree in Political Science from Brown University in 1994 and a Master of Business Administration Degree from Dowling College in 2003.
Mr. Gianelli has been the head of the NHCC, a $525 million public benefit corporation since 2006. He had been charged with leading the clinical, financial and physical transformation of the NHCC while spearheading a $240 million modernization plan that calls for building a new emergency room, renovating numerous clinical facilities and patient care areas, implementing cutting-edge information and medical technology, constructing two new community health centers, and replacing the A. Holly Patterson nursing home. Prior to heading the NHCC, Mr. Gianelli served as the Deputy County Executive for Finance for Nassau County, overseeing the County’s $2.5 billion operating budget, its $3 billion debt portfolio and its cash investments.
Mr. Gianelli was selected by the 36 members of the EMPH 2008 class to be the class speaker at the October 3, 2008 Columbia University graduation ceremonies at which Kenneth Raske, President/CEO of the Greater New York Hospital Association will give the graduation address.
