ALOYSIUS B. CUYJET, MD, NUMC’S CHAIR OF MEDICINE AND VP OF CLINICAL EFFECTIVENESS AND MINORITY HEALTH INITIATIVES, APPOINTED AS CLINICAL PROFESSOR OF MEDICINE AT SUNY STONY BROOK
East Meadow, NY…Aloysius B. Cuyjet, MD, chair of the department of medicine at Nassau University Medical Center and vice president of Clinical Effectiveness and Minority Health Initiatives has received notification of his promotion to Clinical Professor of Medicine in the Department of Medicine at the SUNY at Stony Brook.
In announcing the prestigious appointment, Richard N. Fine, MD, Dean of the School of Medicine at SUNY Stony Brook said: “On behalf of President Shirley Strum Kenny and based on the recommendation of Dr. Margaret M. Parker, Interim Chair, Department of Medicine, I am pleased to inform you that I have approved your promotion to Clinical Professor of Medicine in the Department of Medicine, as a member of the voluntary faculty in the School of Medicine at SUNY Stony Brook effective October 29, 2007. I extend my best wishes to you on this promotion and look forward to the contributions you will continue to make in our concerted efforts to improve all aspects of health care and education in the Long Island community.”
Arthur A. Gianelli, president/CEO of the Nassau Health Care Corporation congratulated Dr. Cuyjet on his prestigious promotion and said: “Your promotion to Clinical Professor of Medicine at SUNY Stony Brook is well deserved and an indication that you have achieved significant status in areas of publications, scholarly activities and teaching.”
Dr. Cuyjet received his B.A. from Brandeis University, his M.D. from New York University School of Medicine, and his M.P.H. from Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases, and Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Cuyjet was previously associate professor of medicine at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Dr. Cuyjet is responsible for developing and implementing new initiatives and programs to reduce the racial and ethnic disparities in morbidity and mortality that impact many of the residents of Nassau County.
Dr. Cuyjet is an active clinical trialist and has authored book chapters, articles, and editorials. Most recently, he completed a book chapter on minority participation in clinical trials. His clinical interests include Hypertension and Hypertensive Heart Disease and Healthcare Disparities. Active in many community organizations, Dr. Cuyjet has served as a board member of the National Boxing Service Center, United Health Care System, Association of Black Cardiologists and New Jersey Blood Center. Most recently, he was appointed to serve on the Board of Directors of the American Heart Association. He has received numerous awards and honors from various professional and community organizations.
