ALEX VIDAL, MD, NUHEALTH’S DIRECTOR OF ARRYTHMIA CENTER, ELECTED PRESIDENT OF MEDICAL SCIENTIFIC COMMITTEE OF SPANISH AMERICAN MEDICAL SOCIETY OF NY. INC.

East Meadow, NY………….Alex Vidal, MD, director of the arrhythmia center in the cardiology department at the Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC), has been elected president of the medical scientific committee of the Spanish American Medical Society of NY, Inc. In a recent letter, Mercedes Mota-Martinez, DDS, president of the Spanish American Medical Society of NY, Inc., notified Dr. Vidal of the recent results of the 2014 officers election in which he was unanimously elected as president of the medial scientific committee: “We are sure your expertise and knowledge are essential to your new position and we are certain that working together as a team will only benefit our Society to offer its members and non-members a quality medical scientific program. Please accept our congratulations and best wishes.”

Dr. Vidal will assume the voluntary position in January 2014 and will work on choosing medical topics and on recommending speakers for the 38th Inter-American Medical Congress and for any other medical conference that may take place through the year 2014.

In extending his congratulations to Dr. Vidal, Steven J. Walerstein, MD, FACP, chief medical officer for the NuHealth System, indicated: “Your dedication to promoting a culture that delivers the best in patient care at NUMC has helped you achieve this prestigious honor. Congratulations on this well deserved recognition by your peers.”

Dr. Vidal was born and raised in Puerto Rico and graduated from medical school in Puerto Rico. He received his training in internal medicine at Emory University in Atlanta, GA, with additional training in cardiovascular diseases at UTSHC in Memphis, TN and in cardiac electrophysiology at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. Dr. Vidal has been a practicing specialist in cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology on Long Island since 2009. Currently, he is director of the NUMC Arrhythmia Center and chair of the code committee at NUMC.
