ALEJANDRO R. ZURETTI, MD, APPOINTED NUMC’S CHAIRMAN OF PATHOLOGY AND LABORATORIES

National reputation in the field of Anatomic and Clinical Pathology with particular expertise in Surgical Pathology

EAST MEADOW, NY….Arthur A. Gianelli, NuHealth’s President/CEO, announced the appointment of Alejandro R. Zuretti, MD, as chairman of the department of pathology and laboratories at the Nassau University Medical Center.  As chair, Dr. Zuretti leads the activities of the department with services that include gold-standard infectious disease testing in our virology and microbiology laboratories, blood banking and transfusion services, as well as molecular diagnostics and cytopathology.  Anatomic pathology services include autopsy, surgical pathology, and fine needle aspiration.

“The recruitment of Dr. Zuretti, an outstanding clinician with a terrific track record of success in research, and many publications, fits very well within our health system and will take our hospital to the next level,” said Gianelli.  “He brings a national reputation in anatomic pathology with particular expertise in surgical pathology”

Prior to joining NUMC, Dr. Zuretti served as the director of laboratories, chair of pathology and blood bank director at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center in Brooklyn.

Walerstein, executive vice president for medical affairs and medical director for the NuHealth System.  “His clinical and research expertise will be of tremendous benefit to the patients that we serve.”

Dr. Zuretti completed his undergraduate studies at the National College of Buenos Aires, University of Buenos Aires, and earned his MD at the University of Buenos Aires, School of Medicine in Argentina.  He trained in one of the best residency programs in the country – The Mount Sinai Medical Center in NY, after his internship at
St. John’s Episcopal Hospital in Far Rockaway, NY.  Following his residency, he completed his combined fellowship in surgical pathology and dermatopathology at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in NY.  He is Board Certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology.  He holds an academic appointment at Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn as clinical associate professor in the department of pathology.

A widely published author of many peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, Dr. Zuretti has received numerous awards and honors and has served on several committees.  He is fluent in Spanish, conversational in French and he resides in Manhattan.
