Colorectal Surgery

NuHealth’s colorectal surgeons at Nassau University Medical Center offer comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic interventions specifically related to diseases of the colon, rectum and anus, including:

We perform a variety of diagnostic procedures, including endorectal and endoanal ultrasound, examination under anesthesia, anoscopy, rigid and flexible sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy, which is offered as a screening test for colon and rectal cancer. Many of these can be performed without anesthesia, and those that can be are generally ambulatory procedures, requiring no overnight hospital stay. Procedures performed by the Division of Colorectal Surgery at Nassau University Medical Center include:

  • Therapeutic colonoscopy (including dilation of strictures, removal of polyps, control of bleeding and stent placement)
  • Surgical management of benign and malignant anal and colorectal diseases
  • Open abdominal surgery
  • Minimally invasive (laparoscopic) abdominal surgery
  • Sphincter-sparing anorectal surgery
  • Surgical management of inflammatory bowel diseases
  • Sphincter-repair procedures for incontinence
