For women in need, NuHealth’s Emergency Department at Nassau University Medical Center provides a separate gynecology suite with its own ultrasound unit. Here, pregnant women in distress receive special attention in a safe, quiet space specifically designed to handle obstetric and gynecological emergencies, including:
- Ectopic pregnancy
- Eclampsia
- Placental abruption
- Fetal distress
- Uterine rupture
- Prolapsed cord
- Obstetrical hemorrhage
- Placenta previa
In addition to these acute medical services, NuHealth’s ED at Nassau University Medical Center also offers Family Support Services and a Sexual Assault / Domestic Violence Emergency Care Program. In fact, NUMC has been designated as a 24-hour Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner (SAFE) Center by the New York State Department of Health, with professionals who have been specially trained to provide compassionate medical and psychological care and proper collection of forensic evidence.
