Maureen P. ShannonFollowing twenty years of progressive quality management health care experience, Maureen P. Shannon has accepted the position of Vice President for Quality Management at the Nassau Health Care Corporation (NHCC), effective August 17, 2006. Prior to receiving the well-deserved promotion, Ms. Shannon served as the Corporate Director of Clinical Effectiveness at NHCC, with increasingly responsible experience in management, education, quality and risk management, and strategic planning, and delivery of multidisciplinary health care within hospice, correctional health care, and academic acute-care health systems.

Ms. Shannon started her career in health care in 1976 as a Charge and Staff Nurse in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit of the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, and worked her way up the ladder to success through various progressive positions of responsibility during the last two decades.

In her new position of Vice President for Quality Management, Ms. Shannon will be responsible for the provision of strategic leadership and direction in all areas of performance improvement (PI), including PI plan development implementation and outcomes management with integration of clinical and operational PI activities, and reporting that is consistent with all regulatory and oversight agencies.

She will also be responsible for facilitating the development of information for hospital-wide needs and goals (validating trending and analyzing data to support PI initiatives; facilitation of PI activities of multidisciplinary committees; concurrent and retrospective medical record reviews; and comparative analysis of internal data with external benchmarks), and oversee all performance-improvement initiatives and quality investigations, including root cause analyses.

Ms. Shannon obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing, graduating summa cum laude from Ursuline-St. John’s College School of Nursing, Cleveland, Ohio, in 1976.

In 1999, she graduated with distinction from a Master of Arts in Health Administration Program at Hofstra University. A registered professional nurse in the states of New York and Ohio, Ms. Shannon has also qualified as a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ).
