“Caring for NUMC Kids” Campaign Launches to Enhance Pediatric Mental Health Facilities at Nassau’s Only Public Safety-Net Hospital

(EAST MEADOW, NY) – The Children’s Center at Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC) has launched a new fundraising initiative, the “Caring for NUMC’s Kids” campaign. This campaign seeks to enhance the amenities and activities available to children and adolescents undergoing mental health treatment at NUMC.

Recognizing the importance of providing a nurturing and supportive environment for young patients, NUMC is dedicated to upgrading its facilities to better meet the unique needs of children ranging from kindergarten to high school ages. By enhancing these amenities, NUMC aims to create a more comforting and engaging environment that promotes healing and well-being.

To turn this vision into reality, NUMC has launched a GoFundMe campaign where every contribution received will directly impact the lives of young patients. Notably, NHCC Chairman Matthew Bruderman contributed $10,000 to kickstart the campaign, which has an overall goal of $25,000.

“Our goal with the ‘Caring for NUMC’s Kids’ campaign is to bring smiles to the faces of children and adolescents facing challenging times,” said Interim President and CEO Megan Ryan, Esq. “We believe that by upgrading the resources available for young people in our care, we can offer them comfort and support when they need it most.”

The campaign will focus on providing supplies for creative expression, purchasing new toys for play therapy, and upgrading recreational spaces. NUMC invites the community to join and share the campaign with friends, family, and networks to collectively make a meaningful difference in the lives of these young individuals.

“This is just the beginning,” added Ryan. “The ‘Caring for NUMC’s Kids’ campaign marks the first of many initiatives planned for 2024 to enhance pediatric mental health care.”

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is led by Constantine Ioannou, MD, the department chair. The department assists approximately 6,400 children per year.

“NUMC extends its gratitude to all supporters for their kindness and encouragement in making a positive impact on the lives of children and adolescents in need,” Ryan said.
