East Meadow, NY……….Victor F. Politi, MD, FACP, FACP, NuHealth/NUMC’s President/CEO announces that the Nassau University Medical Center will be participating in the American Cancer Society’s Real Men Wear Pink Campaign by holding a “Pink Day at NUMC” on October 14th and by joining the American Cancer Society in the October 16th“Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” Walk Day. Dr. Politi, along with men from across the LI community will be working to help raise awareness in the fight to end breast cancer.

“I, along with members of the NUMC family, will take a stand against breast cancer by supporting the American Cancer Society through participation in the Real Men Wear Pink campaign. We will be supporting the “Pink Day at NUMC” on October 14th and the Making Strides against Breast Cancer Walk Day on October 16th. We urge residents of our surrounding communities to join us in the campaign to raise awareness,” stated Dr. Politi.

Local male leaders who are participating in the campaign will be announced at this event, which will kick start their efforts to fundraise for the American Cancer Society and raise awareness for breast cancer by wearing pink throughout the month of October. It takes everyone to create a world free from the pain and suffering caused by breast cancer – both women and men alike. In an effort to create a unique platform to invite men to show support for this important cause, the American Cancer Society is engaging and empowering local community leaders in the fight against breast cancer through the Real Men Wear Pink campaign.

While this campaign is a fundraising initiative, it also provides strong awareness efforts in the local community for the American Cancer Society and the Making Strides against Breast Cancer program. Since 1993, more than 12 million Making Strides against Breast Cancer participants have helped raise more than $750 million to create a world free from the pain and suffering caused by breast cancer. Making Strides against Breast Cancer is a noncompetitive three- to five-mile walk held in nearly 300 communities nationwide. Last year, 1.4 million walkers raised more than $60 million. Dollars raised help the American Cancer Society ensure no one faces breast cancer alone by funding innovative breast cancer research; promoting education and risk reduction; and providing comprehensive patient support to those who need it most.
