East Meadow, NY….Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano and Nassau University Medical Center President/CEO Dr. Victor Politi will join New York State Senator Kemp Hannon, Chair of Health Committee, at a ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at 11:00am for a multi-million dollar, 38,000 square foot Primary Medical Care Center. It is expected to serve over 300,000 residents a year. It will be open to everyone, as well as those that cannot afford the cost of medical care. The Center will reduce avoidable ER visits. The over use of the Emergency Department in the United States is responsible for over 38 billion dollars of wasteful spending a year.

The new state of the art Primary care center is comprised of three divisions-Pediatric and Adolescent, Women’s Health Center and a Adult Medicine and Wellness Center. There are 55 treatment rooms as well as a children’s room with games to eliminate the feel of being in a hospital setting. The funding has come from the State of New York HEAL grant and is expected to save over 25 percent in avoidable emergency rooms visits. It will unite specialty and primary care into one place. Local residents can come in with appointments with doctors, as well as walk in care. Nassau University Medical Center is the region’s only public hospital serving the needs of over 1.5 million residents.
