East Meadow, (NY), March 13, 2017 — Nassau University Medical Center President and Chief Executive Officer Victor F. Politi, MD announces that the hospital is moving into high-gear in anticipation of a major snow storm expected to hit Long Island tomorrow, Tuesday, March 14, 2017. NUMC is activating an Emergency Services Center consisting of doctors, nurses and other medical personnel who will be on hand all day to assist those in need during the storm.

The hospital has scheduled additional security and EMS personnel to transport critical employees to work should the need arise. Emergency generators have been tested, and supplies checked to make sure patients and staff will have sufficient food. NUMC’s ambulances and other life-saving equipment are prepared for any emergency. Snow-removal trucks are standing by to ensure hospital roads are clear. NUMC is a Level One Trauma Center and is prepared to receive patients from other hospitals should those facilities become over-crowded. Additional staff will be available, some on a 24/7 basis. The facility is being secured for high winds and heavy amounts of snow. Nassau’s only public hospital, has served for decades as a critical infrastructure for the County during storms or other natural disasters.

All ambulatory sessions in the out-patient centers at NUMC and at the LI Federally Qualified Health Centers will be closed on Tuesday, March 14, 2017. To reschedule appointments, please call 516-486-NUMC.
