East Meadow, NY……….Victor F. Politi, MD, FACP, FACEP, NuHealth/NUMC’s President/CEO, announces that Anantha Ramanathan, MD, board certified vascular surgeon, has joined the Department of Surgery at the Nassau University Medical Center. His responsibilities will include performing vascular surgeries and rotating through the vascular outpatient practices, here at NUMC.

“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Ramanathan to our Level 1 Trauma Center, where his skills and experience in vascular surgery present him as a wonderful addition to our Department of Surgery,” stated Dr. Politi.

Dr. Anantha Ramanathan, fondly called Dr. Ram by patients and colleagues, is an experienced vascular surgeon who has worked in many countries.  Dr. Ram obtained his MBBS degree from the University of Colombo. He completed his post graduate training in general and vascular surgery in Sri Lanka during that country’s civil war, thus obtaining extensive experience in vascular trauma. He won the prestigious PR Anthonis Gold Medal. He was a senior resident in that country’s first renal transplant program, being in charge of dialysis access as that stage. Dr. Ram then went on to gain more experience and qualifications in England and Australasia. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He completed an ACGME accredited two year fellowship in vascular surgery in SUNY at Buffalo, NY. During this period, he won the Peter B Samuels prize at the Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery, in Orlando, FL, in 2007.

Dr. Ramanathan has developed and enhanced his skills in dialysis access surgery and endovascular surgery. He has published many articles in the field of vascular surgery, and in particular, dialysis access surgery. Dr. Ramanathan is also a prolific writer. He won prizes from the Western New York branch of the American College of Surgeons twice during his fellowship.

Dr. Ramanathan indicated, “I am passionate about vascular surgery and I am keen to get the endovascular program up and running and look forward to working with the entire medical staff at Nassau University Medical Center.”
