Four-Year $240 Million Modernization Program

The program includes significant investments in
real estate consolidation, facility improvements,
clinical equipment and information technology at
NUMC, the replacement of our nursing home and enhancements
to the Community Health Centers, all to benefit
patient care and safety. This provides a window
of opportunity in the next four years for our public
institution, serving the indigent and uninsured
to reorganize, consolidate, maximize our real estate
and through information technology, efficiently
reconfigure our operations. This Modernization Program
will be funded from the Nassau Health Care Corporation's
operations 2004 refunding, New York State Department
of Health reimbursable project and requests to be
made to Nassau County for tobacco settlement proceeds.
The Five Principal Objectives of the $240
Million Modernization Program

1. Consolidate real estate on the East Meadow Campus
Pour three unpoured floors in NUMC's main tower
Reconstruct the parking garage
Develop a comprehensive Master Plan for the East
Meadow campus
2. Make significant improvements to the NUMC main
tower and certain campus buildings
Reconstruction of the Emergency Department
Renovation of the 8th floor as an outpatient psychiatric
center
Creation of labor and delivery recovery area
Completion of new Burn Center
Sealing of courtyard
Renovation of Intensive Care Unit and operating
room
Construction of the new psychiatric units
Renovation of Radiology Department
Construction of new center for Ophthalmology services
Renovation of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
Department
Renovation of Radiation Oncology division
3. Purchase Critical Medical Equipment and Information
Technology
Replacement of two CT scanners
Possible upgrade of cardiac catherization laboratory
Scanning of medical records
Full implementation of Eclipsys
Expansion of PACS (Pictorial Archiving Communication
Systems)
Introduction of physician charge capture software
4. Improve Community Health Centers
$5 million investment in capital improvements
2008 opening of the new Freeport Community Health
Center by Memorial Economic Development Corporation
New Hempstead Community Health Center

5. Construction of new A. Holly Patterson Extended
Care Facility
Replace current nursing home with smaller, state-of-the-art
nursing home costing $100 million

As a result of these significant investments,
there is a fundamental opportunity to reconfigure
the Nassau Healthcare Corporation's operations
with emphasis on achievable improvements in the
quality of care provided to its patients.
