Paul J. Rowland, FACHE, a highly regarded and effective healthcare administrator who served during the last five years, as the Vice President/Chief Operating Officer (COO) for the Nassau Suffolk Hospital Council, was named Chief Operating Officer on June 8, 2007 of the Nassau Health Care Corporation (NHCC). Mr. Rowland has accepted the COO position at the NHCC and agreed to return to Nassau University Medical Center where he served in various positions, including COO, over a decade ago. A leader with extensive healthcare, hospital and human service senior management experience, he brings a wealth of highly effective interpersonal and management skills gained over a long and distinguished career. He is the right person to help the NHCC motivate senior and middle management in an environment of change.
Mr. Rowland will be responsible for the NHCC's day-to-day operations with administrative responsibility for policy and procedure, support services, planning and construction, human resources, Information Technology, business process redesign and strategic planning.
From 2002 until present, as the Vice President/Chief Operating Officer for the Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council, Mr. Rowland was responsible for the day-to-day operations of a trade association, which represents 23 not-for-profit and public hospitals on Long Island. In addition to the Nassau Suffolk Hospital Council position, Mr. Rowland has worked in health policy and hospital administration positions, including two regional planning agencies on Long Island, serving as an acute care planner for the New York State Department of Health and various hospitals in New York City and Nassau County. His many years of hospital administration included positions, from 1993 to 2000, as Senior Vice President for Administration at the New York Hospital Medical Center of Queens and from 1989 to 1993, as the Director of Planning and eventually Chief Operating Officer for the Nassau County Medical Center where he planned, organized and directed administrative services for Nassau's acute care public teaching hospital, nursing home and health services of the Nassau County Correctional Center.
Mr. Rowland, a West Sayville resident, and a Fellow of the American College of the Healthcare Executives, earned his Bachelor's in Psychology from Fordham College and his Master's from Fordham University Graduate School of Social Service concentrating on Public Policy, Planning and Research. A member of many professional societies and organizations, including being on the board of LI Multiple Sclerosis chairing their Programs Committee, Mr. Rowland has taught at the Master's level and participated in extensive speaking and consulting engagements.
