Aloysius B. Cuyjet, MD, MDH, VP, Clinical Effectiveness & Minority Health Initiatives


Dr. Cuyjet received his B.A. from Brandeis University, his M.D. from New York University School of Medicine, and his M.P.H. from Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases, and Critical Care Medicine. Previously with the University of Medicine and Dentistry- New Jersey Medical School where he was Section Chief of Critical Care Medicine and an Associate Professor of Medicine, Dr. Cuyjet was recently appointed Vice President for Clinical Effectiveness and Minority Health Initiatives at the Nassau Health Care Corporation and Program Director and Chairman of the Department of Medicine at Nassau University Medical Center.

Dr. Cuyjet is responsible for developing and implementing new initiatives and programs to reduce the racial and ethnic disparities in morbidity and mortality that impact many of the residents of Nassau County. He also works very closely with the Nassau County Department of Health and the Minority Task force on the disparities issue, priorities for the County Executive and the Legislature. Dr. Cuyjet is an active clinical trialist and has authored book chapters, articles, and editorials. Most recently, he completed a book chapter on minority participation in clinical trials. His clinical interests include Hypertension and Hypertensive Heart Disease and Healthcare Disparities.

Active in many community organizations, Dr. Cuyjet has served as a board member of the National Boxing Service Center, United Health Care System, Association of Black Cardiologists and New Jersey Blood Center. Most recently, he was appointed to serve on the Board of Directors of the American Heart Association. He has received numerous awards and honors from various professional and community organizations.
