John P. Maher

John MaherJohn P. Maher MPH is Executive Vice President and the Chief Financial Officer of the NuHealth System. A seasoned senior-level healthcare executive, Mr. Maher comes to the Nassau University Medical Center with over 35 years’ experience in the hospital/healthcare environment. Prior to joining NuHealth he served in various senior-level executive positions at North General Hospital in New York during the years from July 2006 until December 2011 in the capacity of President & CRO, as well as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating & Chief Financial Officer.  Prior to his tenure at North General Hospital, Mr. Maher was engaged in various consulting projects. He also served as Vice President for Administration and Treasurer of St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx for eighteen years, from 1982 until 2000. Prior to joining St. Barnabas, he was a senior auditor and hospital systems consultant with a NYC public accounting firm.

His primary responsibility in hospitals has been finance and information services. Other areas of responsibility have included medical records, materials management, engineering, revenue cycle, insurance real estate management and development, corporate development, large-scale construction programs and board and community liaison. As a consultant, he had participated in Sarbanes-Oxley audits, HUD reviews, acquisition analysis, and revenue-cycle improvement. Major in house projects focused on seamless integration of financial, clinical and voice communications systems over multi-corporate environments, including hospitals, nursing homes and physician practice management settings, as well as the establishment of revenue-cycle management practices to improve financial stability.

John holds an undergraduate degree in Accounting from Providence College, in  Rhode  Island,. and an MPH in Health Policy and Management from Columbia University, in New York City, with emphasis on theory, strategic management, and hospital operations.

Mr. Maher is a member of the American College of Hospital Executives and an Advanced Member of the Hospital Financial Management Association.
